Whitehall Boca rests on a 7-acre site, of which 1½ acres are devoted to an artfully designed tropical garden to nurture the spirit and provide gentle therapeutic recreation. Our grounds also feature a putting green that likewise enhances therapeutic value. To see larger images of the thumbnail pictures to the left, simply move your mouse over them. Whitehall Boca’s attention to the health and well-being of its residents and visitors is apparent inside our 82,000-square-foot building, but our commitment to enhancing recovery extends to the outside of our facility as well.

Picture of palm treeOur garden, opened in December 2009 at a cost of $350,000, is lush with a variety of tropical plants and trees, and includes a covered wooden cabana with benches for those who simply wish to enjoy the serenity of a peaceful environment. A small pond winds through a portion of our garden, and walkways gently curve throughout the garden for casual strolling. Benches are located throughout.

Indeed, with more than thirty types of plants and well over two dozen trees and palms, the garden is a haven for natural beauty.

But for all the splendor of our garden and the environmental benefits returned to nature with it, our garden also includes therapeutic recreational elements to enrich recovery efforts. For instance, horticultural beds are available in the garden in which residents can plant flowers and vegetables, care for them, use them in our arts and crafts projects, or take them home when their recovery programs are complete. It’s a perfect blend of nature and humankind. Planting and nurturing flowers or vegetables are enjoyable activities, of course, but under the supervision of our trained therapists the process also helps to stimulate senses, and augment fine and gross motor skills.

Picture of golf putterGiven South Florida’s gorgeous weather and ample golf courses, it’s no surprise that many of Whitehall Boca’s residents are golfers eager to complete their recovery and return to their game. To maximize their potential for doing just that, the putting green on our grounds serves much the same purpose as our horticultural therapeutic recreation. Not only can participating residents enjoy the challenge of recapturing their putting techniques, but along the way they can learn to improve their stamina, strength, balance, and strategies for safe movement.

Recovery from an illness or injury involves work, but Whitehall Boca believes recovery shouldn’t preclude enjoyment that can help to speed the process along. When you visit our facility, we hope you’ll ask to see our grounds as well to understand their value and why we’re confident that at Whitehall, there really is a difference.
