In order to offer the finest services that will maximize inpatient and outpatient recovery efforts, our rehabilitation team plays a continuing and integral part in overall patient care. Indeed, our therapists are employees, not contract workers, so you can be assured of the most committed and consistent treatment available.

Our therapists routinely work with other health care professionals to assist patients in overcoming the effects of injury and disease of the neurological, musculoskeletal, pulmonary, orthopedic and cardiovascular systems. They also use their skills to help patients prevail over functional declines that may have occurred after surgery. Their goal is to restore independent functioning as quickly as possible, and to facilitate a speedy return to home using an intensive, multi-disciplinary treatment approach.

Physical Therapy

whitehall015Physical therapy involves a dynamic hands-on approach that helps patients return home with confidence in their ability to safely perform everyday activities. Each patient’s program is individualized by certified physical therapists to take advantage of the most appropriate procedures that will help the individual achieve his or her highest level of function.

Therapists work with patients to assist them in progressive ambulation, basic and advanced transfers, and functional bed mobility. Treatment sessions also incorporate exercises to help increase patient strength, endurance and balance, as well as aid in pain management. But because therapists also understand the value of family involvement, they additionally educate caregivers so that once patients return home, they can properly continue the techniques learned in therapy. Former patients have frequently stated that therapy makes them “feel whole again.” (Back to Top)

Transitions Program

Our unique Transitions Program allows patients who are soon to return home to practice their skills in an environment that simulates the real-world conditions they’ll likely encounter in their own homes and communities. The program, which generally takes place over the patient’s last week at Whitehall, approaches a transition back home in two practical ways. First, patients practice using their everyday skills in a specially designed, home-like setting right within Whitehall Boca. The room is fully equipped with a kitchen, dining area, bedroom area, and bathroom. Second, patients are accompanied by therapists on community outings, such as to a grocery store where they can shop, pay a cashier, check their change, and so on. These types of practical experiences in real-world settings helps patients gain confidence in their ability to operate safely at a high level of independence. Read more about this unique program. Restorative Nursing

The restorative rehabilitation program at Whitehall works to promote the resident’s ability to function independently. The focus is to achieve and maintain optimal physical, social and functional well-being. The restorative rehabilitation program consists of a specially trained team of certified nursing assistants who provide residents with skill practice and education in activities of daily living including, but not limited to, walking, transfers, dressing, grooming, eating and swallowing, and range of motion/strengthening exercises. All activities are done under the direction of a licensed therapist and each program is designed to specifically meet the needs of individual residents. In addition, each program is reviewed monthly by a licensed speech, physical, or occupational therapist to verify it is meeting the individual resident’s needs. Through the restorative program, residents are given individualized, personal attention to achieve their highest level of functional independence. (Back to Top)

Therapeutic Activities

We are diligent in appropriately tailoring individual therapeutic activities. Patients’ abilities are evaluated to design a program that targets their individual strengths in a way that bolsters their confidence and accomplishments, rather than their impairments. Our programs are created to suit all residents, whether an individual can participate in robust group activities, or requires gentle, one-on-one stimulation such as prayer, conversation, or reading.
